Full Service Design and Decor

Your dream home brought to life.  We design your remodel and create schemes and layouts for furnishings and decor, overseeing their execution and installment.  This service is for a whole home, or very nearly.  New builds are welcome; we will work with your architect or help you find one if you are just embarking on your journey.  This is our main service!

Limited Scope - One or Two Rooms

If our schedule permits we will help you overhaul a particular space, with emphasis on the design and layout, and source what you need to implement the plan.  This service is particularly good for a Kitchen or Bath remodel.

Our Values

Beauty and function are Aligned

If your home is comfortable, livable and strikes a joyful note, it is halfway to our goal of a beautiful design.  This is why we always start with the architecture and respect the provenance of the home.  Any solutions that can come from architectural adjustments (moving a wall, adding a window or skylight, moving plumbing fixtures, and changing lighting) have more to offer than decor alone can achieve.

Collaboration is Key

We respect our clients and want to guide you to achieve your goals – not dictate them.  We have a point of view, but we will always hold your goals as primary when we design your home.  We can help you define your goals, as well, if you aren’t sure of them.  Our best results have always come out of projects where we had a lively and spirited dialogue and collaboration with our clients.

Natural is Best

At JCD we believe in sustainability and the inherent beauty of natural materials, including stone, fabrics like wool or linen, leather, metals that patina and more.  Plants and a connection to the outdoors is another tenet of this value.  An adjunct to this is that the mark of the human hand is key to producing a home with life in it.  That’s why we value artisan or artist-made furnishings and art, and want to always include examples of the hand-made in our designs.  Vintage and antique furniture are another expression of the natural ethos; these pieces bring history and patina into the home, and their story becomes part of yours.

  • A cozy dining nook with a round wooden table, a ceramic vase with pink and white flowers, a blue bowl of peaches, a window seat with floral and striped pillows, and a window with leafy trees outside.

"Julia has great taste! A true artist!! We purchased a home she improved, and we continually receive compliments about the updates she made to the 1928 Spanish-style property. We would HIGHLY recommend Julia to anyone that is considering making improvements, no matter the style ... Julia's eye will catch all the perfect ways to enhance any property!"

  • Colorful kitchen with dark mint green cabinets, black countertops, and open shelves, featuring kitchenware, a red stand mixer, and a large kitchen island with a marble countertop.

"We worked steadily with Julia over the course of 2 years to renovate both our bathrooms and our kitchen. She is a wonderful partner, with eclectic taste, great resources. She's also savvy about problem solving, generous and open to collaboration. She has a great team of professionals and craftspeople and she creates spaces that instantly feel like home."

  • Interior of a room with a decorative black metal table holding two green lamps with white shades, pink candles, and various small decorative objects. Behind the table, a framed artwork with the text 'May Belfort' features a person in an orange outfit. On each side of the artwork, there are wall-mounted candle holders with pink candles. To the left of the table, there is a potted plant in a red pot on a small ornate stand, and to the right, another large potted plant in a terracotta pot. The floor is wooden, and there is a patterned rug in the foreground.

"Julia Chasman did a makeover/refresh on our master bedroom and dining room, which hadn't been updated in twenty years. She brought in wonderful textiles and ideal paint colors, which brought a spirit of fun back into the dining room, and a feeling of rest, revival and peace into the master suite. The new upholstery and draperies in both rooms were done perfectly. She also elegantly solved a technical issue we encountered, involving our wanting to mount a drapery rod above a deck door which had a lighting soffit above it. Julia is a pleasure to work with. Her sense of design is joyful."

Our Design Process

The Process

We aim to make our design process as simple and transparent as possible. Every project begins by honoring the architecture of your home, then exploring floor plans to envision new layouts—whether that means reworking the flow of your rooms or refreshing your space with new furnishings, art, and a thoughtfully curated palette of colors and patterns.

Through a clear, step-by-step process proven successful with many clients, we’ll help you achieve a joyful and cohesive home that reflects your life’s journey. From a newly designed kitchen to the smallest finishing details, we’ll be with you every step of the way to bring your vision to life.

  • We begin with a free Discovery call to talk about your initial needs, and are happy to spend as long as this takes to get to the next step.  We want it to be a good fit!

  • We offer an in person consultation in your home for a fee, of an hour or more, to see if we all are on the same page, and to walk through your home together, talking about ideas, goals, and possible solutions.  There is no further commitment after this meeting, until we all agree to move forward.  You are free to utilize any ideas that we offer during this consultation, and we always have them!

  • We agree on the Scope of Work and price for our services in a detailed written contract.

  • We prepare written plans on as-built drawings, that detail layout and any architectural changes suggested in the Scope of Work.  Moodboards are part of this for inspiration and design direction.

  • We submit specific furnishings and decor pieces for your approval, and procure them once you have paid for them, based on the Purchase Orders we submit.

  • Once any construction is complete, and everything is sourced we install your completely designed home.
